Request for Quote - Bid Contracts

I ask for your advice with a project I have been tasked with. The company I work for is going to be moving to a new process of having our suppliers bid out our projects. This has never been done in the past. Normally we would just work with a dedicated supplier on what we want done and that's the end of that. Do any of you have a standard form (RFQ) that you use currently for this type of work? Do you have an example you can share? My general understanding for getting this accomplished is that we need a RFQ with certain specs that we would lay out to the suppliers to have them review. This way they provide us back with a bid to the specs we are outlining. Any assistance in pointing me in the right direction or confirming that I am on the right track would be much appreciated.
