Who else has fallen into the procurement career? Tell me your story! Any advice?

I have been following many resources related to procurement, and I have picked up on the fact that I am not the only one who fell into the world of Procurement! Even Tania Seary, founder of Procurious, and Kelly Barner, owner of Buyers Meeting Point, have similar stories (as heard on Episodes 2 & 6 of The Art of Procurement Podcast by Philip Ideson). I would love to hear everyone's stories, as I am still relatively new to the profession, & I would like to learn from other people's experiences. For anyone who is interested, here is my story: While studying Biological Sciences in college, I secured a part-time lab position at a Biotechnology company. Naturally, I thought my path would be related to the sciences - a subject that has always interested me. However, once I graduated, I needed a full-time position... the only one available at the time was a Purchasing Specialist position in the office. Since I had a background in lab supplies, chemicals, & other biotech materials purchased by the company, my lab manager recommended me for the position. I was hired, but really had no idea what I was getting myself into! I am forever indebted to the supply chain manager, as she was willing to train me when I literally did not even know what PO's or RFQ's were! I have enjoyed procurement so much that I never looked back. Four years later, I have gained an abundance of knowledge and learned a tremendous amount of information! However, I still feel like I have so much more to learn, & I am trying to gain more confidence every day. I think the next step for me is to find a new company where I can have a new environment & experience within procurement to develop my career. I have been immersing myself in the content available to me online to understand how other organizations work compared to my company. However, sometimes I feel the way in which I learned solely from experience, hinders my confidence. Does anyone else feel the same way?
