ITIL Certification for IT Procurement Category Managers?

Is it common for IT Category Managers to hold certifications such as ITIL (Foundation Level)? I'm a big fan of "learning by doing" but wonder if this sort of certification might help bolster one's resume in the IT Procurement space. Curious to know if any IT Category Managers out there have done ITIL, or is there some other certification/training that will provide a broad grounding in how IT departments are run? Many thanks.
