Is CIPS necessary?

Hi everyone, I'm looking to take MCIPS diploma? Has anyone taken the exams? Is it worth the investment? I've 5 years of procurement experience across indirect categories. I want to understand if this is going to help my long term career development. Also, should I self-study the modules? How to get the books? Books sold on the official website were quite expensive.
