How can I get my start in Procurement?

Firstly, I'd like to say that I stumbled across this site just recently and after having spent time reading through discussions, have found it to be greatly informative; so a big thank you to everyone that has shared their experiences and opinions. I graduate in a years time with an undergrad Economics degree and for a while now, I've known that I wanted to dive into the world of procurement. So my question is, what are the common routes into procurement? and also, in your professional opinion, what could I do to better my chances of employment into such roles? I've already begun my studies for CIPS qualifications and I've previously worked as a Procurement intern at McKinsey & Co; but what else could attract the eyes of procurement recruiters? Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
