Global sourcing but local country SRM

In a global sourcing environment we can all use our skills to locate, negotiate and procure goods or services with suppliers in our chosen markets. However unless you lead a global procurement team with country representation in every market you procure from the challenge is how to develop, nurture and leverage a trusted relationship with your supply chain remotely. Does anyone have experience where you have managed to deploy a robust SRM programme in countries where you have no on-site procurement resource?
