Extending contract to improve procurement

We are charging to collect green waste which will impact on the tonnages we collect. The current contract expires mid season which means I will not be able to provide bidders with tonnages they can bid against. Under OJEU regs is it possible, with agreement of the current supplier, to extend the current contract past it's expiry date to facilitate this and encourage suppliers to bid?
