Electric Motor Repair vs. Replace Savings Calculations

All, Quick question. In my current company there is a tendency to reject savings claims for repairs particularly on large gears and larger electric motors. I am making a business case about including these in savings measures where appropriate but wanted the opinion of the group as to any formulas you use to come up with a number or if you just do the difference between buying new from the cost of the repair.
